Universal Credit - Help to Claim

A client contacted our Universal Credit Help to Claim line recently.  He had always worked and had never claimed benefits before but had recently been made redundant.  We discussed the benefits system with him and helped him make a claim for Universal Credit.  We are also helping him challenge earlier poor decision making by the DWP.

He told our adviser "Brilliant from the word go. Really helpful, reassuring and absolutely brilliant. I don't think I'd have managed without you."

Our staff and volunteers are continuing to work remotely - if you need help to claim Universal Credit, phone our freephone number 0800 144 8 444 or talk to us on line https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/helptoclaim/

Our volunteer team

A lady contacted our Adviceline about correspondence she received relating to her Working Tax Credits payments and was helped by one of our team of volunteer advisers.
Whilst her issue is not yet resolved, we continue to help her with this. She said "please could you thank the gentleman I spoke to on the Adviceline the other day; I was very upset and anxious and he was so kind to me, I felt better just by talking to him "
Our face-to-face services remain suspended but we are available on Adviceline 0300 452 2552 (Monday to Friday 10.00am to 2.30pm) or via our webform https://carh.org.uk/index.php/contacts

Housing Support Team

Our Housing Support Team recently worked with a client who had health issues, was struggling with money and about to be made homeless through no fault of her own.  We supported her with securing a new tenancy, repairs to the new property, understanding the benefits system alongside work she had been offered and with personal budgeting.

Our client is now in a much better place and said - 'Great to know you can always go to someone at Citizens Advice confident that someone is there for you to help you understand everything.  All are so nice!'
